About us

The Pot Place opened in 2005 and we’ve worked with lots of lovely gardeners since then. We may have started with just pots but we’re now established as a fully-stocked garden centre that still, we hope, keeps a family feel, lots of local connections and a reputation for good value.

We have stock that you won’t find anywhere else, the time and expertise to answer your gardening questions and some of the best cakes in Cumbria!

The old station at Plumpton

Our team

Some of us have been here since the beginning, others are recent recruits but we all share an enthusiasm for what we do. From those in the kitchen and Alison, our plants expert, in the polytunnels to the crew working off site on garden buildings and other projects, we’re all part of the same team.

Our site

The clue is in the address – and in the high speed trains passing us on the West Coast mainline. The Station Yard at Plumpton was once a regular railway stop and we’ve kept some of that character and heritage feel, particularly in the Tea Room.

Our customers

Many of our customers are local to us in Cumbria but we’ve attracted visitors from all over the world when they’re in the area. With regularly changing stock, seasonal planting ideas and unique feature pots and plants, there’s always something to see. We’re also proud to supply several great open gardens and attractions and a number of Lake District hotel groups.

Our neighbours

We share the Station Yard with Cumbria Oak, a business that has a large showroom here with a great choice of wooden furniture for every room in the house. As well as the base here in Plumpton, Cumbria Oak also has a second shop in Kendal. So, whether you need furniture for outside or inside your home, one of us will be able to help!
